Our general rule of thumb is that if a version can play together with the others, it’s called Minecraft. This version will be coming to Nintendo Switch as well.Ī: Going forward, the Bedrock Engine-based version of Minecraft will be called simply Minecraft on all platforms. Q: Which version of Minecraft will you be using to unite Minecraft?Ī: We’ve been developing the Minecraft version that is currently on mobile, VR and Windows 10 since 2012, also known as our Bedrock Engine, and have brought it to Xbox One as part of the Better Together Update. So many questions! So many answers! And we're not done yet - we'll probably be tweaking and adding to this FAQ as more info comes in. And so we put together this crazy long FAQ for you. You probably have a few more questions about just how this whole platform convergence is meant to shake down. You can read more about the fancy features in the update here. And what does that mean? That means players on those platforms will be able to join each other in-game, create, cooperate or compete together on massive servers, and access whatever swish skins and Marketplace adventure maps they own on any of their compatible devices. Wait! What does that mean?! It means that we’ve taken the first big step toward unifying Minecraft for console, mobile and Windows 10 into one lovely shiny edition of Minecraft. The Better Together update IS HERE! WOOO! YAAAY!

Stages in Super Mario 64 and his 2D titles would have vague cosmetic concepts behind them, but they largely consisted of floating platforms that didn't make any logical sense. Prior to Sunshine, Mario games had always been based around abstractions. Indeed Super Mario Sunshine's dedication to world building was really ambitious for its time. ![]() Instead, it was content to be what its premise promised all along: a vacation. Super Mario Sunshine didn't concern itself with being a kingdom-spanning epic. It's got hotels, an industrial area, a haunted house, coral reefs, and of course, beaches. While some found the beach resort limiting or same-y, I always viewed it as a plus, as I was really impressed at how much Nintendo managed to squeeze out of this one theme. Where previous Mario games saw you traverse the Mushroom Kingdom across a wide array of biomes, Super Mario Sunshine dedicated itself to a single tropical motif, as the whole thing was set around a vacation gone awry. Perhaps Super Mario Sunshine's most divisive aspect was its devotion to one particular theme. Where previous Mario games saw you traverse the Mushroom Kingdom across a wide array of biomes, Super Mario Sunshine dedicated itself to a single tropical motif Since you had to dive back into the same stages time and time again, being able to carve your own path through these levels offered a playful sense of creativity that I found missing in more linear Mario adventures. Not everything you could do was especially useful in attaining your overall goal of collecting shines, but this freedom of movement offered tiny joys like finding your own shortcuts. But even without the FLUDD - which is taken away for certain classic platforming challenges - Mario had a triple jump, spin jump, wall jump, and somersault, offering such a complete repertoire of maneuverability that it was fun to just run around on your own and scale the architecture. The FLUDD jetpack/hose was key to this, as it offered Mario a forgiving hover ability, but it also granted him the ability to slide on his belly, blast up in the air, and sidestep. As for why, there are a multitude of reasons, so let's get into it! The FLUDD water pack added a number of new game mechanicsįirst off, the key to any Mario game is its movement, and I reckon Super Mario Sunshine has the best, most intuitive, and downright expressive moveset of any Mario game. Part of this is personal bias due to the fact that it was the first video game I ever owned (I was so young that I remember being scared by the silly little mud enemies), so it imprinted itself onto me early, but it's also a game that I've revisited many times over the years and have come to appreciate more each time. Super Mario Sunshine has a somewhat dubious reputation among Nintendo fans, but I can say with absolute sincerity that it's my favorite of Mario's 3D adventures. Muscular strength is the ability to exert maximal force in one single contraction, such as lifting a weight that you could lift only once before needing a short. Andy owes those drugs to Tim Briggs (Giovanni Ribisi), who wants his drugs or will kill Chris’ family (wife, Kate Farraday (Kate Beckinsale) and two sons). An entertaining but mediocre action film. Chris Farraday (Mark Wahlberg) is pulled back into the smuggling world by his brother-in-law, Andy (Caleb Landry Jones), who threw some drugs overboard during a raid. I do recommend it, but you’d be better off waiting for it to become available at a dollar theater or on Netflix. It shows that the people behind it knew what they were doing, but it felt like a film that’s essentially been churned out to make a profit during the industry’s off-season. Overall, this film is pretty entertaining, but it isn’t completely mind-blowing. Simply put, there’s not much else to say about this film. There is good acting, good writing and pretty standard cinematography. The other aspects of the film are fairly solid. However, the realism disappears when we get to the film’s denouement, as it reverts to the industry imposed “happy ending,” which I found a tad disappointing. It presents a fairly realistic scenario of what it’s like to be a smuggler. It doesn’t glamorize the criminal lifestyle, nor does it entirely demonize the antagonists. One thing that surprised me about the film was that it had a good degree of realism. ![]() However, this film does a good job setting up the story and keeps things moving, so there isn’t any point where the film drags. This film has a very fast pace to it, not necessarily in the same way that most action films are paced, but more in the sense that it feels more like a cut-and-paste kind of story. In order to get the money to pay off Briggs, Farraday has to go on one last smuggling run. When his brother-in-law, played by Caleb Landry Jones, screws up on a cocaine delivery, Farraday and his family become targeted by Tim Briggs, a recently released drug dealer, played by Giovanni Ribisi. The story of “Contraband” follows Chris Farraday, played by Mark Wahlberg, a notorious smuggler who has left the life of crime behind and is the owner of a security company. Mark Wahlberg portrays retired smuggler Chris Farraday in "Contraband." (Universal Pictures) ![]() To start off, this is a remake of an Icelandic film called “Reykjavík-Rotterdam,” which came out in 2009 and is actually directed by the main star of the original film, “Baltasar Kormákur.” We haven’t seen movie translation like this since “The Grudge,” an American remake of a Japanese film. These types of movies tend to range from high-profile, Bond-esque heists, to gritty cautionary tales about the seedy underbelly of society. When we really think about it, we know that what they’re doing is wrong, yet we still find ourselves rooting for them until the end credits. Films in which the protagonist is a criminal are always an interesting thing to watch. ![]() As it grew in popularity and influence, jazz served as a means of bringing young people together. Whether you’re a fan of jazz or just appreciate great music, the history of jazz in Kansas City is one worth exploring.Jazz is a uniquely American style of music that developed in the early twentieth century in urban areas of the United States. Kansas City played a major role in shaping jazz during its formative years, and its impact can still be heard in the music we listen to today. The city’s jazz musicians developed a unique style that blended a relaxed, fluid sound with extended soloing, riffing, and a heavy blues influence. In conclusion, the history of jazz in Kansas City is a fascinating and important chapter in the development of one of America’s most celebrated music genres. Although Kansas City’s jazz era was relatively short-lived, it left a lasting impact on the national music scene and continues to be celebrated through events like Jazzoo. Kansas City jazz was also defined by its use of riffing, in which different sections of a band would improvise collectively, creating a dynamic and unique sound. The city’s jazz musicians developed a unique style characterized by a relaxed, fluid sound, extended soloing, and heavy blues influence. Kansas City played a vital role in the development of jazz during the 1920s and 1930s. In 2011, Jazzoo was one of the nation’s largest charity fundraisers, raising over $800,000. Jazzoo: A Celebration of Kansas City JazzĮach year, Kansas City celebrates its jazz heritage with Jazzoo, a charity fundraiser dedicated to raising funds for the Kansas City Zoo. Other notable musicians associated with Kansas City jazz include Buck Clayton, Herschel Evans, Coleman Hawkins, Andy Kirk, Julia Lee, Jimmie Lunceford, and Benny Moten. Kansas City produced many influential jazz musicians, including Count Basie, Charlie Parker, and Lester Young. However, the city’s jazz era came to an end when Pendergast was convicted of income tax fraud in 1940, and the city cracked down on the clubs. Kansas City jazz was a major influence on the larger music world, with its style overtly transferring to the national scene in 1936 when record producer John Hammond discovered Count Basie on his car radio. The Count Basie’s signature tunes “One O’Clock Jump” and “Jumpin’ at the Woodside” are examples of this riffing, as they are mainly collections of riffs memorized in a head arrangement and punctuated with solos. Riffing was also a defining characteristic, with different sections often improvising collectively. Kansas City jazz was heavily influenced by the blues, with many songs based around a 12-bar blues structure. This further contributed to the loose, spontaneous Kansas City sound. ![]() The KC big bands often played by memory, composing and arranging the music collectively rather than sight-reading as other big bands did. The musicians’ goal was to “say something” with their instruments rather than simply show off their technique. It also included extended soloing, as the non-stop nightlife under political boss Tom Pendergast fueled highly competitive jam sessions that often continued until later than sunrise. Kansas City jazz is characterized by its preference for a 4 feel (walking), which gave it a more relaxed, fluid sound than previous jazz styles. However, the most fertile area was the inner city neighborhood of 18th Street and Vine, where many jazz musicians lived and performed. ![]() Jazz clubs like the Amos’ n’ Andy, the Cherry Blossom, and the Spinning Wheel were scattered throughout the city. The city’s jazz musicians often engaged in friendly musical competitions, performing variations of a single song throughout the night. Kansas City in the 1930s was a cultural melting pot, attracting people from all over the country. However, the Kansas City jazz school is typically associated with black bands like Bennie Moten, Andy Kirk, Harlan Leonard, George E. The Coon-Sanders Original Nighthawk Orchestra was the first band from Kansas City to gain a national reputation in the 1920s. In this article, we’ll take a look at the history of jazz in Kansas City, exploring its background, style, and impact on the national music scene. The city developed its unique jazz sound during the 1920s and 1930s and played a vital role in shaping the music genre as we know it today. However, many music historians consider Kansas City one of jazz’s most important cradles. When you think of jazz, the first city that comes to mind is likely New Orleans. ![]() Exploring the Roots of Jazz in Kansas City |
